Leticia Vasquez Wilson Earns Endorsement of AFSCME Locals 1902 and 1001
Central Basin and MWD Director Lands Coveted Support From Water Employees
LYNWOOD, CA — American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1902, representing the working men and women of Southern California water districts, has endorsed Leticia Vasquez Wilson in California’s 33rd Senate District race. The special election will take place Mar. 26.
“The members of AFSCME Local 1902 are proud to support Leticia Vasquez Wilson for Senate District 33,” remarked Alan Shanahan, President of AFSCME Local 1902. “Having a strong advocate, with a proven record fighting for working families is what is needed in our State Senate. Leticia will fight for equal rights, pay equity and worker rights without a doubt. We have witnessed this first-hand through her work on the Metropolitan Water District Board, for our members and the constituents she served. Leticia is not afraid to speak up when others remain quiet. She is a true leader, is present and available, and will work hard to advocate for residents in the district.”
“I am honored to receive the support of AFSCME Local 1902,” Vasquez Wilson said. “As a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Metropolitan Water District, I know that water works because of the hard-working men and women of AFSCME Local 1902. I remain dedicated to protecting workers from losing the raises they deserve or the benefits they earned. I will continue to fight for the rights of working people.
AFSCME Local 1902 joins AFSCME Local 1001 Management & Professional Employees Association of MWD (MAPA) in supporting Vasquez Wilson as the next senator to represent the 33rd District.
AFSCME members provide the vital services that make America happen. AFSCME Local 1902 represents the working men and women of Southern California water districts from the Ventura County border to the San Diego County region and as far east as the Nevada/Arizona border. AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and freedom and opportunity for all working families.
Elected to the Central Basin Municipal Water District in June 2012, Leticia Vasquez Wilson currently represents the cities and communities of Lynwood, South Gate, Florence-Graham, Willowbrook, Compton and Carson.
